Void Vanishing finds Mike Netland's celestial ambiance and Catherine Quesenberry's exquisite voice coalescing with a mature new sound — not quite the ecstatic pop they summoned by deconstructing the Beach Boys' "Pet Sounds," nor is it the pure abstraction of Planet Plant. "Rubies'" slight atmosphere builds around melodic nods to Erik Satie's "Trois Gymnopédies," while "Pactolian" hints at a secret narrative lingering somewhere in the ether. The swelling rhythms of "Termina" punctuate the energy that's resonating all throughout the album, allowing it to stand on its own experimental structures. "It’s a Tuesday night. I have had 5 or 6 too many shots of Jameson while chasing it with Keystone Light. My friends have all left me behind to avoid the embarrassment of being in my company. Women are naturally repelled by my booze stench and uncanny amounts of sweat tinting my once white shirt. I stand up, or I attempt to stand up and stumble to a blurry door that I am hoping is a bathroom. Then begins the endless vomiting into a sink, which to my surprise happens to be in a ‘Ladies’ restroom. Immediately, I catch a haymaker-slap to the chops by a stunningly gorgeous Latin lady (who probably really looked like a troll to the sober eye) because some of my puke landed on her shoes. After this, the rest of the night is a blacked-out mystery. I had reached a soft part of the alley way and passed out. Nighty noodles everyone.

The following morning, the ominous, icy and atmospheric sounds of ‘Wild Silver’ by Warning Light are playing in my headphones as I shamefully walk back to my NoHo apartment. “Wild Silver” is apparently what you hear while you spew proof of your prior stupidity into a toilet the next morning. ‘Hangover music’ is probably a better way of putting it. Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a negative review…at least, not about the music." - Backsideonline

"Rubies", the first single from "Void Vanishing" by Qurious is now available for your listening pleasure.



"Breaking the rules is where things get interesting with pop music. Franz Ferdinand’s ‘Take Me Out’ actrually slows down for the main part of the song. Sonic Youth releasing ‘The Diamond Sea’ the twenty minute closing track as the single off Washing Machine. Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’

Here -and this is a single- it’s not only the fact that it’s the first single but it’s the track itself. ‘Rubies’ the track fades in to an ambient opening, before the vocals come in on a completely different song. And two minutes twenty two seconds in it stops and goes in a different take before coming back to the main theme. But like the aforementioned song, though it sounds nothing like them, it’s a great pop tune. And although I get a number of submissions in my inbox every day, I suddenly realise I’m playing this for the fourth time in a row…It reminds me of Brian Eno in parts, Boards Of Canada in others, and Dubstar vocalist Sarah Blackwood in others. The tags for the Soundcloud read ‘Drone’ ‘Hip-Hop’ ‘Shoegaze’ and ‘Electronic.’ Very accurate." - 17 Seconds

Which is just fine by me. I certainly like a certain level of black and bleak in my music, but Qurious manages to conjure verdant grooves with just the right amount of mystery and hallucinogenic abstraction.
